Acacia glaucoptera

Acacia glaucoptera

Flat or Clay wattle

2017

22 x 31cm

Watercolour  on Fabriano Artistico white cotton rag 300 gsm

This species has, instead of leaves, modified leaf stalks (phyllodes) that perform as leaves, and change colour as they age from red-orange, to bluish green to yellow. This gives the plant an odd appearance, as the eye is used to seeing branches and stems separately from leaves.

Bright yellow flowers grow on stalks directly from the stems, starting out as tiny green round buds.

This acacia is native to an area of Western Australia.
